Macy's, Inc. was formerly known as Federated Department Stores, Inc. and is a department store operator in 45 states in the United States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico. The merchandise they sell include men's, women's, and children's apparel and accessories, cosmetics, home furnishings, and other consumer goods. The names of the department stores are operated under Macy's and Bloomingdale's, both of which offer online e-commerce under macys.com and bloomingdales.com. Other operations include the mail catalog division of Bloomingdale's By Mail and the online bridal registry program by Macy's, Inc. As of November 29, 2008, the Company operated a total of 859 retail stores. Macy's, Inc. for the first three quarters of its 2008 fiscal year had purchased $546 million in property and equipment and capitalized software of $104 million. Furthermore, the first three quarters of the fiscal year saw the Company opening 4 new Macy's departments stores and one new Macy's furniture galley, and reopened an existing Macy's store from an earlier hurricane caused closing. The company expects to budget their capital expenditures in the same range for its fiscal years 2009 and 2010, around $1.1 billion each year.
