Marathon Oil Corporation engages in the business of exploration, development, refining, marketing, and transporation of liquid hydrocarbons, natural gas, and other petroleum products throughout the world. The company's operating segments consists of four primary segments. The Exploration and Production segment explores, produces, and markets liquid hydrocarbons and natural gas all over the world. The Oil Sands Mining segment mines, extracts, and transports bitumen from oil sand deposits in Alberta, Canada, whereby the bitumen are then upgraded to produce synthetic crude oil and their by-products. The Refining, Marketing and Transportation segment refines, markets, and transports crude oil and other petroleum products mainly in the Midwest, upper Great Plains, Gulf Coast and southeastern regions of the United States. The Integrated Gas segment markets and transports products manufactured from natural gas, such as liquefied natural gas (LNG) and methanol, on a worldwide basis. Marathon Oil also operates about 1,600 gasoline convenience retail stores in nine states in the Midwest (Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, West Virginia, Minnesota, Wisconsin and South Dakota) under the brands Speedway and SuperAmerica through its subsidiary Speedway SuperAmerica LLC, based in Enon, Ohio.
