ConocoPhillips is an integrated, international energy company which operates in six operating units. The exploration and production unit explores, produces, and markets crude oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids. The Midstream unit gathers, processes, and markets natural gas liquids in the United States and Trinidad. The Refining and Marketing unit purchases, refines, markets, and transports crude oil and petroleum products. The LUKOIL Investment unit is made up of their equity investment in the shares of OAO LUKOIL. The Chemicals unit manufactures and markets petrochemicals and plastics throughout the world. Lastly, the Emerging Businesses unit develops new technologies and businesses such as power generation, carbon to liquid technology through coal and petroleum coke, and alternative energy and renewable fuels. In October 2007, ConocoPhillips had acquired a 50% interest in the Sweeny Cogeneration plant in Texas from American Electric Power Company, Inc.
