Dollar Tree, Inc. is an operator of discount variety stores under the names of Dollar Tree, Deal$, and Dollar Bills, which sell products at a fixed price of $1.00 in the United States. The stores offer consumable products such as food, candy, health and beauty care, and household products for cleaning. Further, the company sells other merchandises such as toys, housewares, gifts including greeting cards, party goods, apparel, and seasonal items for the holidays. As of November 1, 2008, Dollar Tree, Inc. operated 3,572 stores in 48 states. For the first three quarters of 2008, the Company had opened 201 stores and expanded 79 stores, while closing 40 stores. This all adds up to 2.3 million more in square feet of space for the company to run their retail operations. The average size of the retail store is about 8,500 - 9000 square feet. The company is also implementing two important factors in increasing their comparable store net sales by rolling out more of the visibility of their frozen and refrigerated merchandise and accepting a broader form of payment. The increase of the frozen and refrigerated merchandise increased to an additional 220 stores as of November 1, 2008 as compared to the same time last year. Also, with the acceptance of Visa credit cards in all of the stores starting on October 31, 2007, the Company more than doubled the acceptance of food stamps in 2,160 stores as of November 1, 2008 as compared to 1,000 stores during the same time November 2007.
