ALDI, Inc., based in Germany, is an international operator of supermarket/grocery stores in 18 countries. With a focus on value and quality, the company's motto of "Incredible Value Every Day" is driving the company's expansion because of the exceptional savings compared to that of other grocery retailers. The company's first store in the United States opened in Southeastern Iowa in 1976 and today has close to 1,000 stores in 29 states. They sell mostly private label or "select brands", making up 95% of the 1400 different products they carry. The products and services they sell are meats, produce, dairy, frozen foods, refrigerated foods, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, bakery, snacks and candy, and flower deliveries. Other non-food items are apparel and electronics. With expansion plans set for Florida in 2008 and in Texas, Northeast and New England for 2009, ALDI, Inc. has been averaging 50 new stores for the last 3 years. The stores are typically about 17,000 sf in size with about 10,000 sf of retail space. ALDI was founded by its two brothers, Karl and Theo Albrecht.
