Delhaize America, Inc. is an operating holding subsidiary of the parent Delhaize Group, which is based in Brussels, Belgium. Delhaize America, Inc. operates supermarkets all along the Southeast and Northeast part of the United States. The supermarket brands the company operates are Food Lion, Bloom, Bottom Dollar, Harvey's, Hannaford Bros., and Sweetbay. At the end of 2008, Delhaize America, Inc. operated a total of 1,594 total supermarkets in 16 states, most of which was Food Lion (1,158 stores). The other operating supermarket store counts are as follows: 64 Bloom, 28 Bottom Dollar, 69 Harvey's, 167 Hannaford Bros.(Atlantic region), and 108 Sweetbay. For the year 2008, Delhaize America opened 37 new stores and remodeled or expanded a total of 161 supermarkets. The Company is planning to open between 38 and 43 new stores and remodel 52 stores in the United States for the year 2009. All this results in capital expenditure spending of approximately $580 and 600 million for the company in 2009.
