Citigroup, Inc. is a worldwide provider of financial services to consumers and corporate businesses. The company operates through four segments: Consumer Banking, Institutional Clients Group, Global Cards, and Global Wealth Management. The Consumer Banking segment is involved in retail banking, consumer finance, real estate lending, and small to middle market commercial banking. They also provide personal and automobile loans, investment services, and Primerica financial services. Through second quarter of 2008, the segment has been operating 8,300 branches. The Institutional Clients Group involves themselves in the investment services field which can include debt and equity, private equity, hedge funds, real estate, and managed funds. The Global Cards segment mainly consists of offering of MasterCard, Visa, Diners Club, American Express, and private label credit card products. The Global Wealth Management segment offers management of wealth which includes advisory services, financial planning, and equity and fixed income research programs. The company for the year 2008 has had several transactions within the company. Discover Financial Services acquired Diners Club International from Citigroup in July 2008. In August 2008, GE Capital Company acquired the subsidiary CitiCapital. Lastly, in October 2008, Mumbai, India based Tata Consultancy Services, an IT services, business solutions and outsourcing firm acquired Citigroup's interest in Citigroup Global Services Limited for $505 million all cash deal.
