Walgreen Company is principally a national pharmacy retail chain that sells general merchandise along with pharmaceutical prescription at their drug counters and non-prescription drugs. The prescription drug sales accounted for about 65% of the company's revenues for the year 2008. The methods of getting prescriptions filled can be done by mail, telephone, and the internet. The general merchandise items include health and beauty products, personal care, household items, candy, photo center operations, greeting cards, and convenience foods. The total Walgreens store location counts for the fiscal year ending in August 31, 2008 were 6,934 locations, most of the stores were Walgreens drugstores(6,443 stores). Besides having Walgreens stores, they have a Health and Wellness retail services division. As of November 30, 2008, Walgreens operated 661 convenient care clinics and worksite health centers operated by Take Care Health Systems, Inc., which is a subsidiary of Walgreen. Walgreen Company is expecting to spend approximately $1.8 billion in capital expenditures for fiscal 2009 related to new construction and relocation of existing stores. It's expected that the company will target construction of 540 new drugstores for the fiscal year 2009.
