J.C. Penney Company, Inc. is a holding company which owns the subsidiary J.C. Penney Corporation, Inc., whose primary operations are a department store. The JCPenney department stores sell family apparel, jewelry, shoes, accessories, and home furnishings. Moreover, the company's department stores provide services such as salons, optical, portrait photography, and custom decorating. Besides operating department stores, the company has an internet and catalog business where consumers can buy the same goods as the physical locations. As of November 1, 2008, the Company operated a total of 1,093 department stores in the United States and Puerto Rico. The company also have 91 Sephora inside JCPenney locations. Because of the continuous strong reporting results of the Sephora segment, the company is planning to expand the Sephora segment by an additional 64 in 2009. For the first nine months of 2008, capital expenditures were $738 million, used mainly for opening 35 new or relocated stores, store renewals, and modernizations. Under the company's Bridge Plan, the targets set for 2009 include spending $600 million in capital exependitures, where the company plans to open 17 new or relocated stores and renovate 10-15 stores.
